The Cook

February 16, 2008

I am a 19-year-old girl who has an affinity for making any kind of food from scratch. I live on the outskirts of the beautiful rainy city of Seattle here in the Pacific Northwest.

I come from a family of amazing cooks and I grew up on homemade meals. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been transfixed by food prep. When I watched TV shows in the morning after school when I was still in kindergarten, I would take breaks every now and then to watch my mom (who was a stay-at-home mom until I was 13) cut, peel, clean, dice, etc. whatever ingredients she was using to make our lunch.

At the young age of 6, I had my very first cooking experience — I fried my first egg! Ever since I successfully fried my first egg, I knew that I wanted to learn to cook more.

Fast forward 13 years later, I am now in my freshman year of college and still interested in learning as much as I can about the culinary arts. My mother has passed on some delicious recipes (mostly of Filipino, Asian and Spanish origins) to me and I have made up my own as well. What she could not teach me I learned from the Food Network. My favorite shows there are Good Eats, Chopped and Iron Chef. I highly recommend that you watch Good Eats if you want to learn more about the science of cooking. It has definitely taught me a lot and has aided me in my attempts to modify recipes that I have found on the internet to make them all my own.

Basically, I am not an expert cook but like many other around the world, I love to cook, I enjoy eating and I would love to learn how to cook better. :) This blog is dedicated to chronicling my amateur cooking experiences.
